Gabriel Coutinho has been a professor at DCC/UFMG since 2017. His research focuses on the intersection of combinatorics, linear algebra, optimization, and quantum computing. He has published extensively in leading international journals and has supervised both Master’s and PhD students.

He has partnered with industry and public organizations to apply mathematics and machine learning in solving practical problems.

Paula Fialho has been a postdoc at DCC/UFMG since 2023, with a FAPEMIG scholarship. Her research focuses on the combinatorics of statistical mechanichs models and connections to algebraic combinatorics. She did her PhD at UFMG under the supervision of Aldo Procacci.

Soffía Arnadóttir has been a postdoc at DCC/UFMG since 2024, with a CNPq scholarship. Her research focuses on algebraic graph theory and applications to quantum walks. She did her PhD at the University of Waterloo under the supervision of Chris Godsil, and a postdoc at Technical University of Denmark under the supervision of David Roberson.

Emanuel Juliano is a PhD student at DCC/UFMG under the supervision of Gabriel Coutinho. During 2025, he is also a PhD visitor at the Eindhoven University of Technology, visiting Aida Abiad. His research is mostly in spectral and extremal graph theory, with a view towards quantum computing and algorithms.

Frederico Cançado is a PhD student at DCC/UFMG under the supervision of Gabriel Coutinho. His research is mostly on the interplay of algebraic graph theory and quantum walks. He has been working as a research assistant at a Petrobras/UFMG cooperation agreement.

Francielle Alves just started her PhD studies at DCC/UFMG under the supervision of Gabriel Coutinho. She will be working on spectral graph theory.

For 6 months in 2022-23 he worked as a research assistant at the University of Copenhagen under the supervision of Prof. Laura Mančinska.
